How to Respond to Pro-Choice Arguments

Become a More Persuasive Pro-Life Advocate Today!

We are dedicated to educating the public on issues related to abortion. Part of this effort includes conversational dialogue with those who disagree with our position. In today’s culture, we see a lot of polarization that inhibits real, productive dialogue. We want to help change the conversation about abortion.

Programs for Improved Dialogue

Good dialogue begins with solid preparation. At DCRTL, we seek to provide training in pro-life apologetics to help you have better, more productive pro-life conversations. To this end, we highly recommend both the Equipped for Life Course and the Love3 interactive workshop for people over the age of 12 (more on those programs below). Although both programs cover some of the same elements, each offers distinct benefits that may prove to be helpful for a specific conversation.

Equipped for Life Seminar

DCRTL hosts a Seminar rooted in the Equipped for Life course four times a year at various days and times at our office. We do this to bring people together to learn, discuss, and interact in a friendly atmosphere. The Equipped for Life Seminar provides a fresh approach to the dialogue about abortion. Equal Rights Institute developed this method from thousands of conversations with pro-choice people. The seminar will help you have charitable dialogues with anyone regardless of their religious or political beliefs.

You can learn more about the course here.

There are two ways to complete this course:

  1. Attend a Seminar at the DCRTL office. The course materials are suitable for children age 12 and over. To view upcoming opportunities, visit our Events Calendar.
  2. Complete the course at your own pace. DCRTL donors receive a discounted rate! Contact us to get started.

What others have said after attending the seminar

“I have always been pro-life, but I was never able to clearly articulate why or defend it, especially without getting emotionally charged. I used to be afraid that I would come off as judgmental and do more harm than good if I tried to promote the pro-life cause.

Now that I have taken the Equipped for Life course, I feel well-equipped with many logical reasons as to why abortion should not be legal. Through this class, I learned how to approach this sensitive topic with compassion, placing importance on listening to the person and finding common ground. I really enjoyed practicing the arguments with a partner each week in class to be able to cement what we were learning. I feel more confident and hopeful about discussing these issues now, and I think any pro-lifer would greatly benefit from this class.”

– Michelle

“The method that [the Equipped for Life Seminar] teaches gives me hope for the future. Giving people the opportunity to discover the truths gives them ownership of that discovery. Telling them what to believe creates division. We all want to be right and so begins an argument.

I recommend the Equipped for Life Seminar to everyone! It is hard (and humbling) but worth every effort. I see this method of communication as key to creating dialogue which could ultimately result in the conversion of hearts we are seeking; the key to making abortion unthinkable.”

– Anonymous Attendee

“The Equipped for Life course was helpful to me as it addressed some specific reasons women choose abortion or people in general support abortion. The course helped me reason through a few difficult questions and reasons so that I might articulate the pro-life position in a logical way and not simply an emotional reaction to abortion.

I believe it will be a help to me in many situations including counseling that I find myself doing often.

It was a good mental exercise and got the brain working! Thank you DCRTL for offering this course.”

Love3 Interactive Online Workshop

In abortion conversations, some people think you can either love the woman in distress, the unborn fetus or the person with whom you’re speaking—but not all three at once. This is an unnecessary and dangerous division.

With Justice For All (JFA) Love3 Workshops, you can learn to create conversations in which you love the woman, the child, and the person who disagrees with you equally at every moment of every conversation. Experience the thrill of creating a productive conversation with at least one pro-choice advocate within one week of the end of the workshop series. This is the flagship training program converted to an online format so anyone anywhere in the world can participate!

Going Deeper on Abortion Debate Topics:

Seeking well-researched information on specific abortion-related issues? If you cannot locate the needed information on our website, or you just want to dive deeper, check out the following resources:

  • Live Action, a national pro-life organization, does undercover investigations of the abortion industry, reporting on pro-life news and stories both nationally and internationally, and they create videos primarily showing fetal development as well as the abortion procedure being explained by previous abortionists through an animated video. You can visit their website at liveaction.org/.
  • Charlotte Lozier Institute focuses on providing research in the areas of science, statistics and medicine. Through the aid of over seventy scholars in various areas of expertise, their goal is to educate policymakers, the media, and the general public with academically proven information. You can access their research on their website at lozierinstitute.org/
  • Secular Pro-Life, an atheist-run pro-life organization, offers an extensive collection of facts, research and myth-busters. While DCRTL does not endorse Secular Pro-Life’s position on matters such as the rape exception and contraceptive use, we find their research comprehensive and valuable for communicating the pro-life message apart from religious arguments. Explore their content at secularprolife.org/index.
  • The Equal Rights Institute Blog hosts a collection of both timeless and newly added blog posts. Topics include everything from responses to pro-choice arguments to practical dialogue tips. Additionally, the Equal Rights Institute maintains a comprehensive index with research and reference materials that provides systematically organized access to key arguments and evidence-based content for effective dialogue and education.
