Memorial for the Unborn

Note: Picture above was taken prior to names added.

The Memorial for the Unborn is dedicated to the children who have been lost through miscarriage and abortion, and to those who grieve their loss. The Memorial was erected to honor their lives and to show that they are not forgotten. They too have a purpose and were made in the image and likeness of God. Every year local pro-lifers join in prayer at the monument to remember those lives lost to abortion and miscarriage.

The Memorial for the Unborn was envisioned to fulfill the need for a place where parents, relatives and friends may pray for their lost loved ones and grieve. Many experience unresolved and often undefined grief resulting from an abortion and even miscarriage. By visiting the grave of a loved one, those in grief can come to terms with their loss. The Memorial for the Unborn is a place for people to sit, reflect, ponder, or pray. It is a place for healing, a place for reflection, and a place for grieving. The project was designed specifically with the psychological and spiritual effects of pregnancy loss in mind.

In 2022, a group of women met to discuss expanding the Memorial to include a memorial stone where families can name their child(ren). Adding names personalizes and reinforces the humanity of the children lost, transforming undefined grief into something real and relatable. If you have questions, please call our office at 563-556-5960, or fill out our contact us form.

To have a child remembered on this memorial stone, we request a $125 donation. You can donate online or mail us a check payable to DCRTL. Names will be added every 6 months. The next deadline to have a child added to the Memorial is August 15.

It still hurts. But naming my lost child and having that name memorialized is helpful. This site is healing and I’m so glad to be a part of it! CM

There seems to be a need among parents who have lost children ~ a need to express their grief and gratitude for lives cut short. Thanks for the opportunity. MG

The memorial to the Unborn, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Dubuque is a beautiful place! I’ve been coming here once a year for many years to reflect. It’s peaceful, it’s healing, it’s satisfying to remember. My baby is acknowledged as a Child of God. Thank you! JS
